‘The Guy Has Real Charisma’: Ex-CNN Analyst Speculates About Whether Donald Trump Jr. Will Run For White House In 2028

Former CNN political analyst Chris Sillizza on Monday speculated about the possibility of Donald Trump Jr. running for president in 2028, suggesting he may inherit his father's “political movement.” did.

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Vice President-elect J.D. Vance as his running mate after Trump Jr. strongly advocated for his selection. Silitza, his YouTube channelsaid Trump Jr. could take the reins of the MAGA movement instead of Vance due to Trump's family loyalty. “I think this man has real charisma. I know a lot of people hate him, but he has real charisma and understands the motivations of the constituency that elected his father. Also, interestingly, he's kind of a type of person, unlike his father, who is a total technophobe. I mean, Donald Trump probably uses a phone, but he actually does. We don't use computers to do that,” Shilitza said. “Don Jr. is actually very knowledgeable about the changing media landscape and how social media has changed everything.”

“So I looked at these numbers: 13 million followers on X, 8 million followers on Instagram. His Triggered podcast is widely listened to and followed,” Sillizza said. “And his social media sensibilities are similar to, by analogy, Elon Musk. He's kind of a troll. Don Jr. likes to troll liberals, which he does really well. And you know who loves it?”

Cilitza noted Vance's status as vice president-elect, but questioned whether a typical line of succession would apply in this case.

“We're talking about the Trump family here, right? So I don't know if we can draw that conclusion yet. I've heard that Don Jr. is interested in running for president. – I've seen the reports – I've heard anecdotally that Don Jr. likes campaigning,'' Sillizza said. “He likes to go out. He likes to mix it up. And we know President Donald Trump is loyal to everybody, which I doubt. If he's loyal to anyone, it's his family, right?”

“If Donald Sr. is interested in somehow carrying on the political movement that he has built, and that movement is most likely to be handed over to someone else, he could perhaps look to his eldest son. “I think there's definitely a knack for this field that stars are attracting attention to,'' Silitza said. “From J.D. Vance to the transition, I think Don Jr.'s influence is greater today than at any previous point in his father's political career.”

Schritza said Vance is likely “aware” of Trump Jr.'s power and potential presidential ambitions. He also said Trump Jr. could run to be Vance's vice president.

“Look, at some point there's going to be an attempt to hand over Trumpism, and Donald Trump is going to want to lead that handover,” Sillizza said. “And the fact that his eldest son is standing there, someone who has shown that he is winning over the MAGA base in a way that few Republicans have, and who himself is extremely popular online.” Who benefits? The social media trolling that comes with being a Trump supporter, the fact that he's related to Donald Trump, all of this is a sign that Don Jr. I don't think I can rule out the possibility of running for office.”
