Taylor Sheridan’s “1944” Update
Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming film, “1944,” which serves as a prequel to “Yellowstone,” has received its first update in quite some time. Sheridan, well-known for his innovative storytelling, created the neo-western genre that has captivated audiences.
Instead of just leaving “Yellowstone” as a standalone, the creators have been rapidly expanding this universe, leading to prequels like “1883” and “1923,” along with CBS’ “Marshals” and “Dutton Ranch.”
Anticipation for “1944”
Interestingly, “1944” has seemed to fade from discussions. While the project has been known for a while, it hasn’t generated much buzz lately.
So, is “1944” still in the plans, or has Sheridan shifted focus? It appears there might finally be some clarity.
A recent report pointed out that a secret prequel series linked to “Yellowstone” is definitely in the pipeline at Paramount. This aligns with information shared by The Hollywood Reporter last October, which noted that “1944” remained a priority for Sheridan even after his significant contract with NBCUniversal.
What remains to be seen is how the narrative of “1944” unfolds. Given that many prominent male characters in the “Yellowstone” universe are military veterans, there’s potential for rich storytelling. For instance, characters like Spencer Dutton and John Dutton have military backgrounds, suggesting the protagonist of “1944” might have also seen service in World War II.
Beyond that, details are sparse. However, the Montana ranch is expected to remain central to the storyline, similar to the connections seen in “1923” and “Yellowstone.”
There’s currently no release date announced for “1944,” and honestly, I wouldn’t expect it soon. What do you think would make for an engaging storyline? Your guesses might just be as good as mine.
