“The problem is the human heart,” the Rev. Franklin Graham said of the New Year's Day attack on New Orleans' iconic Bourbon Street, where a suspect drove his car through a crowd, killing at least 10 people and leaving dozens more dead. He spoke in response to the heartbreaking scene in which ten people were injured. And then a shot was fired.
“The media, law enforcement, and the mayor have indicated that the horrific act of violence that occurred early this morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans may have been a terrorist attack,” Graham said, adding that the suspect was shot and killed. The police chief was quoted as saying. The police were “seriously engaged in a massacre.”
“Whether it's terrorism or not, the problem is the human heart. This clearly shows the evil that is in the human heart and the evil that is all around us in this world,” Graham continued. Ta. “After brutally running over dozens of people, the driver opened fire on police, and two officers were shot dead. We pray for those who lost loved ones and for the many injured.”
He then issued a solemn warning:
This tragic incident reminds us how important it is for each of us to be ready to stand before God. No one knows when we will be drawn into a whirlpool of violence and evil and our lives on this earth will end. The only hope for all of us is if we repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
The tragedy occurred early in the morning. Law enforcement responded to the attack at 3:17 a.m.
“Following further investigation, a total of 10 victims were declared deceased at the scene. At this time, approximately 35 additional victims have been determined to have sustained injuries in connection with this incident.” According to To the New Orleans Police Department.
“The injured victims were transported by EMS to multiple local and regional hospitals for treatment.
