Increasing Tensions Around Immigration and Activism

The Trump administration’s intensified measures against illegal immigration and welfare fraud are being met with escalating actions from the left, which seems to be strategically creating martyrs in the process.

We’ve seen this dynamic play out before, but the current intensity, fueled by significant financial backing and foreign interests, makes it especially perilous. The left’s efforts go beyond mere opposition; they seem aimed at hindering law enforcement’s ability to tackle large-scale fraud in states like Minnesota, Illinois, California, and New York.

Signs of this escalation surface regularly. Recently, governors and mayors from certain states have openly disobeyed federal orders. For instance, the events following the death of Rachel Good in Minneapolis raised eyebrows. Good allegedly confronted a federal officer, which sparked a flurry of incitement from certain officials, heightening the danger faced by ICE agents. This appears to be a deliberate tactic.

As reported by a local outlet, Good was involved with a group known as ICE Watch. This activist was attempting to obstruct federal operations, and it’s noteworthy that the incident was captured on film.

Continuing Violence Against Enforcement Actions

The situation has led to a disturbing trend of attacks against law enforcement. Leaders in targeted cities have used inflammatory rhetoric, further stoking the flames of conflict.

Despite these challenges, President Trump and federal law enforcement must hold their ground and adapt their strategies in response to professional provocateurs.

It seems some elected officials are promoting hysteria to galvanize support and confront more extreme factions. There’s an effort to create conflicts that could lead to martyrdom. History indicates that martyrs, like George Floyd, can galvanize political movements and stir violence, aiding the left in both upcoming elections. They seem intent on pressuring the administration while damaging the Republican Party’s standing.

Take the welfare fraud issue, for example. In Minnesota, a scandal known as “Feeding Our Future” unveiled a staggering $250 million misappropriation of federal funds intended for child nutrition during the pandemic. Some individuals tied to this fraud are believed to have links to dubious nonprofits that may have funneled money to extremist groups. Yet, as the investigations unfold, leftists are quick to label these inquiries as racially motivated persecution.

Expanding Protests and Audits

In Illinois, audits uncovered billions in improper Medicaid expenditures rooted in lax immigration oversight. California’s Medi-Cal system reportedly suffers from fraud exceeding $20 billion annually, partly due to sanctuary policies. Meanwhile, New York’s welfare framework struggles with rampant overpayments and insufficient supervision.

It appears the left wishes to halt these investigations—not because they lack validity, but because revealing corruption undermines their narrative on immigration.

But the question arises: Why foster a martyrdom movement? It seems to stem from a solid grasp of revolutionary psychology. Today’s activists aren’t the opportunistic looters of past riots; they’re ideologically driven, often backed by wealthy donors and even foreign entities, including China, which might seek to destabilize the U.S. from within. They likely recognize that further conflicts with ICE could ignite national outrage, aided by sympathetic media coverage.

This situation calls to mind a personal experience from my time as a military intelligence officer during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Back then, rumors about our inability to use ammunition emboldened criminals. However, after a tragic incident led to the death of an individual at a security checkpoint, the tides swiftly turned, and the unrest diminished.

In contrast, today’s agitators often seem more willing to sacrifice, driven by an ideology that encourages martyrdom. Groups like Antifa, supported by ample resources, aim to portray their actions as fights against “fascist” oppression.

Learning from History

Reflecting on history during the 1860 Secession Crisis—when Colonel Elmer Ellsworth was killed after removing a Confederate flag—highlights how quickly things can escalate. That singular moment propelled both sides into a protracted and bloody conflict.

We must avoid repeating such history. The left’s strategy appears to hinge on predictable law enforcement responses, which create opportunities for agitation and confrontation. Hence, the need for Trump and ICE to develop adaptive, proactive strategies to preempt confrontations. They should focus resources on areas plagued by fraud and collaborate with state officials to navigate around resistant city leaders.

A retreat in the face of these challenges would signal a victory for the left, emboldening further rebellion and undermining law and order. Rather, a strategic crackdown could eliminate fraudulent schemes, secure borders, and thwart the left’s agenda for martyrdom. America has faced worse crises before; decisive action can turn the tide.

Moving forward wisely is crucial for the nation’s future.
