The magical media makeover of Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is a disgrace. After a disastrous presidential campaign in which she never won a single primary, the California senator was tapped by Biden to fill the demographic requirements of progressive thought. Harris was meant to be the successor to whom an aging Joe Biden would pass the baton. But once in office, it became clear why she failed as a presidential candidate. The vice president was quickly relegated to the background, until Biden’s terrible debate performance made it clear that the media could no longer cover their aging poster boy.

The media has reinvented Harris as a charismatic social media icon, but curiously, many conservatives seem to have fallen for this propaganda onslaught.

Harris’s modifications are entirely man-made constructs, and their appearance will soon crumble.

During the 2020 election, Joe Biden was offered as a benign replacement heralding a return to “normalcy” as the media teamed up with the state to create the spectacle of a world-destroying plague. The election of Donald Trump left both party systems in psychological disarray, and the ruling classes decided to inflict their psychological suffering on the people.

President Trump proved capable of avoiding foreign conflict, reducing illegal immigration, and overseeing a successful economy, but the media’s obsession with the Russian collusion conspiracy theory made every moment feel like a heated battle. The successive blows of the pandemic and Black Lives Matter riots gave progressives the narrative momentum they needed to oust Trump and the election fraud, but they needed a bland alternative that frightened voters could comfortably turn to.

Even left-leaning media pundits recognized that Joe, old and doddering, was passable for the job but too male and too white to represent the Democratic Party’s future. Harris, who never made a big impact on the campaign trail, was a Jamaican-Indian woman who was just as hollow as Biden, and also had the advantage of not suffering from dementia.

All the prejudices in the world

Biden was clearly planning to call himself interim president and hand Harris the keys to the kingdom after one term. But every time Harris spoke, she revealed herself to be an obnoxious fool, habitually attending minor events without making embarrassing gaffes. The establishment realized it was a mistake to promote her, refocused its efforts on Biden, and moved on.

After Biden announced his intention to run for a second term, a furor spread through the media. Journalists who had unashamedly covered a man in obvious mental decline began to express concern about the very illness they had previously sought to hide. Some outlets continued to defend Biden’s cognitive abilities, but the president’s collapse in his first and only debate with Trump made it clear that even the most biased reporting would not be enough to propel him to victory.

Harris remains a dismal candidate, which is why some party leaders, like Barack Obama, called for an open primary. But the very identity politics that progressives revere tied their hands. The left could not justify ignoring black women and putting Gavin Newsom on the ticket while preaching about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. So the Democrats stepped up and nominated a candidate who hadn’t received a single primary vote.

How do you sell a DEI candidate who is functionally an incumbent but has the charisma of a block of wood? The answer is, by lying. A lot.

In 2020, the media helped Joe Biden campaign essentially from his basement to hide his shortcomings, and a similar strategy appears to be in play with Harris in 2024. Harris was kept in the shadows for much of Biden’s term, fading from view and allowing journalists to rewrite her public image once she was named his successor.

Policy-wise, Harris is a blank slate. Like Biden, the VP is primarily an agent of the ruling elite’s opinions, with no real authority of her own. This is exactly the type of candidate our managerial elites like: a puppet they can parade before the masses, but unlikely to disrupt the grand scheme of things with their own ambitions. The real race was never Trump vs. Biden, and it never will be Trump vs. Harris. It will always be Trump vs. the administration. That’s why the momentum seems to have shifted once Harris became the de facto candidate. The anti-Trump energy of the entire progressive media complex has suddenly shifted to a new, more diverse avatar.

Still a terrible candidate

In a normal world, surviving an assassination attempt in a symbolic show of courage would secure a few favorable media coverage. But in the United States, a ridiculously biased media is trying to erase Trump’s amazing moments from memory while promoting Kamala Harris as a social media sensation. Unfortunately, that is the reality we face.

Harris remains as boring, unlikable and incompetent as ever. As a result, her campaign’s strategy has been to keep her hidden as long as possible, revealing her only when necessary in the most controlled environments. There have been plenty of awkwardly choreographed video calls and free concerts disguised as political rallies, but with little to no questions from the press.

Mainstream journalists are practically betting their lives on Harris’ election, but despite their astonishing bias, an unscripted reveal is still considered too risky.

When Harris does speak, she seems intent on fighting against her own record. The media has awkwardly lied about the fact that the only actual administration policy Harris was given authority over was the southern border. When NBC’s Lester Holt pointed out in 2021 that she had never visited the border she was responsible for, Harris responded, “And I’ve never been to Europe. And I… I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I’m not downplaying the importance of the border.”

Progressive journalists are trying to erase this moment from the public’s memory, even as the vice president calls for border security, a place he never bothered to visit while in office. Harris also promises to tackle inflation and housing costs, key issues never addressed by the Biden administration. This strategy of running as a reform candidate from an incumbent position is something only a politician who expects slavish loyalty from the entire mainstream media can pull off.

The mainstream media is shamelessly committed to defeating Trump and putting a Democrat opponent in the White House. Most conservatives would agree with this fact, but it doesn’t seem to prevent demoralization for many on the right. There is no reason to believe the rhetoric of a media that has cynically lied to the public at every opportunity in order to expand the power of the left.

This doesn’t mean we should take the election lightly. The administration will do everything it can to defeat Trump and install Harris as president. But no one should buy into the media-generated hype. Harris’s makeover is a completely artificial creation, and the pretense will crumble soon.
