Biden’s 2024 Campaign Challenges Highlighted in New Book
A new book reveals that former President Joe Biden faced significant difficulties while attempting to fulfill essential roles in his 2024 re-election campaign, raising concerns about his cognitive abilities at the age of 82.
In “The Original Crime,” co-authored by Jake Tupper and Alex Thompson, Biden’s aides reportedly tried to manage his public appearances “in a subtle way.” The authors note that when they aimed to record a five-minute video from Biden, the White House suggested keeping it to 1-2 minutes. Yet even within these constraints, Biden struggled to deliver coherent lines.
The campaign attempted various filming techniques, using multiple angles and jump cuts, but these efforts could not mask the consistent issues surrounding Biden’s performance. One insider candidly expressed to Tupper and Thompson that “the man couldn’t speak,” adding that Biden often had trouble articulating his thoughts and staying on topic.
Filming footage was initially planned for April 2024 as the Biden campaign prepared to engage voters in high school gyms. The strategy was to showcase Biden responding to questions from the audience, yet the events were closed to reporters, with a predetermined set of questions provided.
Despite these orchestrations, the authors stated that the footage would ultimately be scrapped. The issues, they noted, went beyond technical aspects like poor lighting and hinted at deeper problems with Biden’s abilities.
Throughout the campaign, aides often referenced Biden’s childhood speech impediment in response to critiques about his speaking capacity. However, many observers pointed out that he had communicated effectively as a senator and vice president.
During this campaign, some viewers noticed numerous edited clips of Biden, particularly during contentious moments like his debate with Donald Trump on June 27.
“The Original Crime” is currently available, and Biden’s allies have defended his portrayal in the book relative to how he navigated his time in office.
Former First Lady Jill Biden recently remarked about the negative depictions, stating, “The people who wrote those books weren’t in the White House with us, and they didn’t see how hard Joe was working every day.”
On Sunday, Biden’s office disclosed that he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bone.
