Xander Schauffele is officially a two-time major champion when he shoots a bogey-free, six-under 65 for a nine-under total and wins the 152nd British Open by two strokes at Royal Troon.
It was his second major win of 2024, having also won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club earlier this year.
Championship Sunday was a pretty dramatic one. Many thought Billy Horschel would win. Then Justin Rose took the lead for a while. Thriston Lawrence nearly stole the spotlight and Scottie Scheffler briefly threatened.
But no one was able to avoid mistakes and hang in there like Schauffele, who finished with four birdies on seven holes, including the toughest on the golf course, to finish in 31 strokes.
Schauffele and Russell Henley were the only two players without a bogey in the final round, but the former Georgia Bulldog only had two birdies.
Schauffele displayed his offensive instincts late in the game, fighting off anyone who tried to challenge him.
The British Open prize money was increased to $17 million, and Schauffele took home $3.1 million and 750 FedEx Cup points.
Rose and Horschel finished second, winning $1,443,500 each. Henry placed fifth in the solo event, winning $705,000. Shane Lowry placed sixth in the solo event, winning $611,000.
Jon Rahm was the highest-placed player at LIV Golf, tying for seventh place with Scheffler and Sung-jae Lim. The three won $451,833 each.
