Packers and Bears: A Long-Standing Rivalry
The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears share one of the oldest rivalries in football. However, there’s a growing sentiment that it may not be as fierce as it once was. The Bears have struggled to find victory against their northern neighbors, having not beaten the Packers since 2018, except for a single win in last season’s finale. Over the last decade, their record stands at a disheartening 3-17 against Green Bay.
This week, it seems like almost every NFL team is unveiling throwback jerseys. While some teams, like the Pittsburgh Steelers, have brought out some questionable designs, others, like the Los Angeles Chargers, seem to have hit the mark. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills are making a nostalgic return with their red helmets reminiscent of the 90s. On Thursday, the Packers stepped into the spotlight with their own throwback announcement—though their new uniforms have raised a few brows; they look rather, well… bear-like.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a strange sight seeing Green Bay don colors that lean towards blue and orange; those shades are typically linked to the Bears. Their new alternative uniforms take inspiration from the 1923 era and feature leather helmets. It’s an interesting concept, but I can’t help but feel it resembles a bear too closely. Let’s take a deeper look at the Packers’ throwback style for 2025.
I’ll admit, I might be a bit biased here, as I’m a fan of the Bears. The Packers have had some outstanding quarterbacks over the years, from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, while my team has struggled to manage a 4,000-yard passer, but that’s how it goes, I guess. It’s tough trusting the Packers to provide an unbiased evaluation; they’re kind of my nemesis.
If I’m going to say something genuinely positive about the Packers, their helmets are actually impressive. They’ve created a modern look that echoes the aesthetics of old leather helmets, which is no small feat. They really managed to pull it off.
We’ve officially announced new throwback uniforms for the 2025 season, complete with helmets designed to resemble those classic leather styles.
People are saying these updates are a significant improvement over similar versions the Packers had a few years back that featured a large circle behind the numbers. Personally, the earlier designs didn’t sit well with me.
This newer version is a marked improvement compared to the previous one. Honestly, I’ve never liked Packers throwbacks until now.
Interestingly, if the Packers wear these throwbacks against the Steelers this season, it might look like they’re playing the Bears, just with a slight twist—the Steelers would be mimicking Green Bay while Green Bay is channeling Chicago.
And, I have to hand it to them, that helmet design is pretty cool. By the way, let’s not forget, Caleb Williams is having quite the undefeated run at Lambeau Field. Just something to ponder for the Green Bay fans.
