Prageru ran a full-page advertisement in the New York Times on Sunday, featuring the question “Can I pass this test?”
Individuals aiming to teach in Oklahoma must now pass assessments created by the conservative group Prageru to receive their teaching certifications. This move is part of an effort to eliminate perceived left-wing influences in education.
According to Breitbart News, some critics argue that the Prageru test is not political, asserting instead that it asks questions founded on common sense and basic facts, which could affect classroom dynamics.
In the advertisement published in the New York Times, one of the evaluated questions is, “Which chromosome pair determines human biological sex?”
For this multiple-choice question, options provided include “AA/BB,” “XX/XY,” “RH/AB,” and “XE/XQ.” Another query asks about the total number of U.S. senators, with choices such as “435,” “535,” “100,” and “50.”
All questions on the Prageru assessment are multiple choice, and test takers receive immediate feedback on their answers.
If an answer is incorrect, a message will prompt, saying, “Sorry, that’s not correct,” and allow the user to try again.
Citizens can also take the Prageru test on their website.
“The purpose of the school board and public leadership is to set expectations for educators. That’s fundamentally their role: to align with community and voter demands,” a spokesperson noted.
Stroit further stated that Ryan Walters, Oklahoma’s public leadership director, believes the teacher test captures those expectations accurately. He added that critics of the test are either being hypocritical or haven’t fully engaged with its content.
Walters commented, “As director, it’s my duty to shield Oklahoma’s children from radical left-wing ideologies that have become prevalent in states like California and New York.”
“Teachers relocating from states like California must pass the new Prager U test before being certified in Oklahoma,” he emphasized. “We won’t let Gavin Newsom’s Woke Marxist Agenda infiltrate our schools and turn Oklahoma into a chaotic mess like California.”
On its site, Prageru describes the teacher qualification tests as pivotal for reinstating integrity, accountability, and truth in education.
The organization argues that with schools increasingly becoming venues for radical ideologies, this test will better prepare educators committed to teaching fundamental values that have historically underpinned America.
The assessment touches on essential topics, including recent Supreme Court rulings that clarify the role of education in a free society, basic citizenship knowledge, reading skills, parental rights, and the significance of education in maintaining a free society.
This initiative is a direct response to what Prageru views as harmful training programs that undermine parental authority and negatively affect young learners.
Furthermore, as highlighted by Breitbart News, Prageru’s educational resources have already been accepted for use in public school curricula in nine other states besides Oklahoma.
This has prompted strong reactions from leftist groups every time another state implements resources that celebrate the historical richness and values of education.
