The Democratic mayor of a Michigan community with a large Arab-American population has endorsed former President Donald Trump, calling him the “right choice” at a “critical time.”
Hamtramck Mayor Amir Ghalib acknowledged on Facebook: post On Sunday, he said that while he and Trump “may not agree on everything,” Trump is a “man of principle.”
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Ghalib began, “let me be clear: our expectations are realistic. President Trump and I do not agree on everything, but I know he is a man of principle. The outlook is bright, but I do not know whether he will win the election and become the 47th President of the United States. But I believe he is the right choice at this critical moment.”
Ghalib said he “does not regret” his decision, whatever the outcome of the election, adding that he was “ready to face the consequences.”
“For this and many other reasons, I express my support and endorsement for the former President of the United States and hopefully the next President, Donald Trump,” Ghalib added. “Now, let the caravan journey begin. This is just the beginning.”
Ghalib said in an interview Saturday with Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle: Breitbart News SaturdayHe spoke of having a “productive meeting” with President Trump last week.
“The meeting was very good,” Ghalib explained in the interview. “I spoke to President Trump about the statistics here in Wayne County and how this used to be a Democratic stronghold, we always voted Democrat, but that's not the case anymore.”
Ghalib added that Trump said he would “end the chaos in the Middle East,” and went on to compare and contrast the reaction on social media to photos of him and Trump with the reaction when another community leader endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
As Breitbart News previously reported, the “Don't Care” campaign that began in Michigan saw more than 100,000 voters cast ballots for “don't care” in response to the Biden administration's response to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
In the 2020 presidential election, President Joe Biden Winner Michigan went to Trump by 154,188 votes.
Recent reports also found that a large portion of Michigan's “independent” movement has not endorsed Harris for president.
