Florida Man Allegedly Kills Wife Over Argument

An 80-year-old man in Florida, William Elwood Simmons, is suspected of fatally shooting his wife, Nancy, during a disagreement regarding a cruise. According to police documents, he expressed a desire to be in prison rather than continue dealing with his deteriorating dementia.

Simmons reportedly called the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday afternoon, around 5:15 p.m., and admitted to the shooting in their Orlando home. He described finding his wife “slumped over” on the kitchen floor, unable to communicate. He then stated that he simply waited for the authorities to arrive.

Nancy was found with a gunshot wound in her upper body, and a shotgun was located nearby, along with a spent shell casing. She was pronounced dead at 6 p.m., shortly after officers arrived.

The affidavit indicates that Simmons acknowledged his guilt, confirming that he had shot his wife after they had argued about the cruise. He shared that Nancy had called him “a son of a bitch” multiple times, which led him to pull the trigger. According to him, he went to get the shotgun from the bedroom, returned, and told Nancy he could no longer take it.

In a further account, Simmons recounted Nancy’s words before he shot her. He stated that she insulted him again just before he fired. This incident encapsulated the culmination of their argument.

Simmons conveyed that he had been overwhelmed by his wife’s declining health due to dementia for an extended period, stating his love for her but also his preference for being imprisoned rather than living with the situation. He has been assigned a public defender upon his request.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted for additional comments regarding the ongoing investigation into Simmons’ case.
