Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Supreme Court is “actively undermining our democracy.”
According to the Massachusetts Democrat, that needs reform.
Warren said, “Well, I think all Democrats are ready for meaningful ethics reform that would bind the Supreme Court, and we are working to reform the Supreme Court. There are things that can be done without a Constitutional amendment, like term limits and increasing the number of justices. I think what President Biden is doing is thinking about this moment. We have a transformative president. He’s accomplished a huge amount, but he stepped back and handed the baton to Kamala Harris. Why did he do that? He did it as an act of patriotism for the country. And he’s saying not only do we need a president who will be there for the country and who will heal and unite us, but we also need to change the Supreme Court.”
She added, “The Supreme Court has to change, too, because right now the Supreme Court has basically jumped the guardrails and given power to the president, saying he can take any action he wants and Congress is saying they can’t authorize the branches of government to act. So the Supreme Court is actively undermining our democracy. I think Joe Biden will continue to keep the American people on their toes over the next six months, reminding them that the Supreme Court is on the ballot in November and that that is reason enough to vote for Kamala Harris and to vote for Democrats in both the Senate and the House.”
