Experts in the dining industry have released their annual list of the top restaurants worldwide.

The 2025 Best Restaurants in the World recognizes 22 distinct locations, chosen by a panel of 1,120 culinary professionals, including chefs and food writers.

This year, ten new restaurants made their debut on the list, while four others have returned.

Leading the rankings is Maido, owned by chef Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura, which has risen from last year’s fifth position.

Located in Lima, Peru, Maido’s name stems from a Japanese greeting, and diners are welcomed by the team upon arrival.

Tsumura’s family has been in Peru since 1889, and he opened his restaurant in 2009. His culinary style cleverly fuses Japanese techniques with Peruvian ingredients.

Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, Spain, snagged the second spot this year.

Tsumura emphasizes the use of local, seasonal ingredients, frequently updating the menu. The tasting experience features multiple courses, showcasing dishes like triple avocado, eggs, tomatoes, and chashu (steamed pork balls), alongside unique items like sea snails with soy sauce and chili foam.

Diners also have the option to select from an extensive à la carte menu that highlights seasonal catches.

Barcelona’s Disfrutar, which held the top position last year, notably did not make it onto this year’s list.

Quintonil from Mexico City ranked third.

In New York, Michelin-starred Atomix secured the twelfth spot overall and holds the title of the best in North America this year.

Chef Jung-kyung “JP” Park and his wife run Atomix, where they’re known for their meticulous attention to detail and beautifully crafted tableware.

Lima, it seems, has a robust fine dining scene, with four restaurants from the city featured this year: Maido at number one, Kjolle at twenty-six, Mérito at thirty-nine, and Mayta.
