All-Star Alternatives Announced for 2025 WNBA Season
The Atlanta Dream’s Brionna Jones and Washington Mystics’ Brittney Sykes have been named as All-Star alternatives, as announced on Thursday. Their selection comes as a result of injuries to Phoenix Mercury’s Sato Savary and Indiana Fever’s Kate Linklark.
Additionally, Minnesota Lynx’s Kayla McBride was chosen to step in for Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard. This brings the overall number of players in the 2025 WNBA All-Star game to 25, comprising 10 starters, 12 reserves, and three alternatives.
Brittney Sykes and Brionna Jones: Key Alternatives
Brittney Sykes, who is 31, wasn’t initially an All-Star but has had a standout season, averaging 17.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. Both her scoring and assist averages are at career highs, and her shooting percentage is the second-best in her career, at 34%.
While Sykes wasn’t named as one of the 12 reserves selected by coaches for the All-Star Game and didn’t get the first call when Howard fell injured, she will participate in the All-Star Game for the first time. She joins her Mystics teammates Kiki Iliafen and Sonia Citron on the roster.
On the other hand, Brionna Jones is now a four-time All-Star, maintaining her defensive prowess while averaging 13.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
