Port St. Lucy – A star was born last October. Mark Vientos' revelational regular season was a great warm-up for what could have come in October when he got on the angst and adrenaline to solidify his name with Mets lore in a month.
We recall that Vientos did a lot of damage when he went through the National League Mets' nest and dealt a lot of damage at a startup. The Mets in the massive market lasted longer than the perennial thorns (brewers) and hated their antagonists (Philies) before they finally dodger the champions in six NLCS games. But what we didn't know was that Vientos was not sleeping. He was hyped.
“I was very nervous. Every day I wake up sweating like three or four in the morning,” Vientos told the Post. “I was very worried and very nervous.”
It doesn't sound that fun to most of us. But Vientus loved every minute.
