Bengals Fall to Jaguars, Burrow Calls for More Passing

The Bengals are now at a 2-2 record following a 22-17 defeat against the Jaguars on Sunday, marking their second consecutive loss after a promising start with two wins.

Quarterback Joe Burrow had something intriguing to say about the team’s offensive strategy.

In the game, Burrow dropped back to pass 58 times and ended up throwing the ball 54 times, which is one of the highest counts in his career. Despite this, he doesn’t think the offense needs to focus on a more balanced approach. In fact, he wants to pass even more.

“Let’s throw it more,” Burrow expressed after the game. “I know we’re great at it. I know that that’s what I do best, and we’re pass protecting really well right now. Obviously, we’d like to get more out of the run game, but I know we’ll make it work… I’m always going to want the ball in my hands in those spots, and there will be games where we run the heck out of the ball, and there will be games where we need to drop back 60 times, and we’ll go and make it happen.”

Despite performing well overall this season, Burrow has been experiencing a troubling trend lately, having turned the ball over twice with two interceptions. This has raised some eyebrows since one of Burrow’s standout qualities has been his ability to avoid turnover-worthy plays. Unfortunately, they seem to be becoming more frequent, especially following a pick-six against Tampa Bay and a fumble against Pittsburgh. His turnover-worthy play rate is now at its highest since his rookie year.

Head coach Zac Taylor, however, isn’t worried.

“To say that I’m concerned? No way, shape or form am I concerned about that,” he said.

In the game on Sunday, Burrow completed 39 of 54 passes for 428 yards, adding a touchdown but also two interceptions, all while star receiver Ja’Marr Chase left in the second half due to a concussion.

Next up for the Bengals is a matchup against the winless Dolphins in Miami.
