Concerns Arise Among Conservatives for Upcoming Midterms

Conservatives nationwide are feeling apprehensive about the 2026 midterm elections, expressing worries that a Democratic wave could overshadow the last two years of Trump’s presidency. However, Blaze TV host Steve Deace and his co-host Daniel Horowitz believe this focus is misguided. They argue that rather than obsessing over a likely Democratic victory, Republicans should prioritize implementing stronger, long-lasting reforms while they still wield power.

“Can we achieve what we want, a lasting victory, before the window closes?” Horowitz questions, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

During an episode of “The Steve Deace Show,” the hosts offered a cautionary perspective. They indicated there are limits to the bold reforms Republicans can implement before a potential Democratic surge in 2026.

Horowitz has indicated that the anticipated Democratic wave seems almost unavoidable, particularly since the current economic conditions are “so bad” and expected to deteriorate further.

“I would rather not discuss the 2026 midterms or the president,” he states. “It’s not really about how many seats Democrats could win in a Congress that seems ineffective. The real concern is whether they will leverage their existing power to ensure lasting change—solidify economic policies, adapt to demographic shifts, and erect strong policy frameworks.”

If Trump’s administration does not enact significant reforms before facing the upcoming electoral backlash, Horowitz warns that by 2029, they could find themselves in a situation akin to the one faced in 2021 when the Biden administration introduced controversial policies, including “January 6 persecution” and “corona-fascism.”

“In 2021, there were no advantages left for President Trump. We can’t afford to be in that position come January 2029,” he underscores. “Now is the time to invest effort to reap success later.”

Deace concurs, envisioning a dire future where the Trump administration falls short in creating lasting change, and Democrats achieve considerable success in the midterms. He expresses concerns that not only is Trump at risk of impeachment, but figures like Pete Hegseth, RFK Jr., and Marco Rubio could face similar threats. “I mean, it’s possible they might even find a way to impeach someone like Stephen Miller,” he adds.

Additionally, he points out they might eliminate procedural hurdles such as the filibuster in the Senate, providing Democrats with the power to push through their agenda unimpeded.

Horowitz stresses the need for two key actions before the midterms. “First, Trump should consider reforms addressing Congressional challenges, like fully suspending immigration and foreign workers, eradicating Obamacare, and reallocating welfare responsibilities to states. This way, even if Democrats regain power, reversing these policies will not be straightforward.”

“Second, we need to invigorate our base to actually participate in elections while ensuring strong, principled leaders are elected in primaries who will hold firm and construct a ‘fortress’ against a resurgent Democratic Party,” he advises.

If these actions don’t occur, Horowitz warns, “we’ll be confronted with tremendous challenges while merely armed with the softest of tools.”
