Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy told SiriusXM's Megyn Kelly on Thursday that Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Waltz's claim to “normal people can see the thru” and that his actions failed.
At the Harvard Kennedy School Forum on Wednesday, Waltz called the “permission structure” for rural white men and helped persuade him to vote for Democrat tickets. After Kelly played the clip on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Portnoy immediately called out Walz's “delusions,” adding that the previous candidate “doesn't act like a normal guy.”
“Yeah, that's a delusion. I mean, it's very delusional,” Portnoy said. “He knew about football, but he didn't talk to ordinary guys. He didn't act like an ordinary guy. His mannerism wasn't like a normal guy. There was nothing to do with what a normal guy was talking about or interested in.
“I remember hearing he was like a football coach, but even that was a strange coach and the story behind it. “By the way, everyone might have screened him for five seconds with their brains, this was a guy. I don't know who they have at the party, by the way, that could have screened him.
According to a CNN/SSRS poll, Democrats hit a record low rating of 29% among respondents – a 20-point decline since January 2021. Additionally, young Americans are separated from Congressional Democrats, and approved 29% compared to 42% in spring 2017, according to a Harvard youth poll released in April. Kelly went on to say how the party tried to promote politicians like former transport secretary Pete Buttigigue.
“I mean, guys like James Kerrville can do that. He has the ability to say, 'It's not going to resonate with Central America,'' Kelly said.
“Massachusetts Governor [Charlie] Baker. He was a pretty normal guy. Not only did he go to the NCAA, I think he was a normal speaking guy,” Portnoy said.
Kelly then asked Barstool CEO, referring to the waltz, if he thought “jazz hand” might not be the right leader for the Democrats.
“He was one of the worst candidates. The whole ticket was bad,” Portnoy said. “That's why they lost. But yes. That's not even political.”
“If you just pull a group of guys out of the bar and say, 'Is this really? Are you going to be friends with that guy?” Most people probably are like, 'No, we're not.' So, once again, that's just the vibe he let out,” Portnoy added.
After failing his White House bid, Walz resurfaced in the media spotlight in March, launching a town hall tour across Red Districts across the nation. More than 30% of respondents said they were unable to name Democrats as they appear to be struggling to unite behind a single leader.
