‘The View’ praises Supreme Court for abortion pill ruling days after blasting justices: ‘Does restore…faith’

The co-hosts of “The View” offered rare praise for the Supreme Court on Thursday after the court unanimously rejected a challenge to the abortion pill.

“It’s nice to hear some good news about the Supreme Court every once in a while,” co-host Joy Behar said.

“It’s restored a little bit of my faith in the courts,” fellow host Sunny Hostin confessed, “because the legal standard is whether or not you have standing to sue. Can anybody sue the Supreme Court? No. You have to prove that you’ve been harmed by the lawsuit. So now we have doctors’ groups and citizens’ groups and all these people challenging the FDA and saying we don’t need this drug.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously rejected a challenge to the Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory approval process for the abortion drug mifepristone, finding that the plaintiffs lacked the right to sue the government.

Hostin praised Justices Kavanaugh and Thomas for following the “clear law” by agreeing that the plaintiffs did not have standing to sue, but remained concerned that abortion rights remain largely determined by the states.

Co-host Sara Haines agreed with Hostin, saying it was a “reminder and example” to “have faith in the process.”

“We are so focused on the hot topics and outcomes rather than the legal arguments, we call judges conservatives and liberals, we tell ourselves to trust our judicial system because it’s a matter of interpretation of the law. [system]”It’s easy to attack the Supreme Court, especially like a regular politician, but we have to stay true to our institutions. That’s why so many of us are afraid,” she said.

Ana Navarro and Behar were more skeptical, suggesting that other plaintiffs could file a similar lawsuit against the FDA over abortion drugs.

“Only God knows what would have happened if the plaintiffs had standing and this matter had gone to the Supreme Court,” Navarro said.

“I don’t trust everything,” Behar agreed. “I don’t trust the courts. I don’t trust the far-right religions. They want to lock 10 kids in a kitchen that we can’t feed.”

Despite their praise, the co-hosts of “The View” have repeatedly attacked the Supreme Court as partisan and biased during their political talk show.

Just two days ago, Behar defended the leaking of audio recordings of Justice Alito and his wife, saying he didn’t mind the recordings being shared with the media because of the need to “expose” conservative justices.

“As we’ve seen, the Supreme Court is very biased and theocratic at this point, and somebody has to expose it because they’re acting arrogantly and they’ve got the entire Republican Party on their side. The objectivity of the Supreme Court is being lost and somebody has to expose it,” Behar said.

Hostin also said on her show in March that she was “disappointed” that the Supreme Court had acted in a “partisan manner.”
