Kamala Harris unveiled her economic policies at a time when Americans are frustrated with the state of the economy.
After the announcement, The Washington Post’s editorial board criticized parts of her plan.
“Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech on Friday was an opportunity to tell voters specifically how she would manage an economy they feel is not working for them. Unfortunately, she squandered the time with populist stunts instead of offering a substantive plan,” the committee wrote.
The Washington Post editorial board on Friday slammed Vice President Harris’ newly announced economic policies as a “populist ploy.”
“Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech on Friday was an opportunity for her to tell voters specifically how she plans to manage an economy they feel is not working for them,” the committee said in an editorial on Friday. “Unfortunately, instead of offering a substantive plan, she squandered the time with populist stunts.”

“One way to address this issue might be to tell voters bluntly that inflation soared in 2021 primarily because the pandemic disrupted supply chains, and that Federal Reserve policies supported by the Biden-Harris administration have slowed inflation,” they wrote. “Instead, the vice president has chosen a less blunt approach by blaming big corporations.”

“Even by the campaign’s economically pandering standards, however, Harris’ speech on Friday was disappointing,” the article concludes.
Washington Post columnist Katherine Rampell also criticized the plan.
The column was titled, “If They Call You a Communist, Maybe You Shouldn’t Propose Price Controls?”
A Washington Post essay says it’s “hard to overstate how bad” Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposal to impose government price controls on food would be, calling the plan vague and harmful and warning that those labeled “communists” by their opponents should think twice before pushing such radical economic policies.
In an article published Thursday titled “If They Call You a Communist, Don’t Propose Price Controls,” Washington Post columnist Katherine Rampell argues that it’s hard to overstate “how terrible” Harris’ plan is.
“It’s not hard to see where this proposal comes from,” the essay states. “Voters want someone to blame for their high grocery bills, but presidential candidates seem to have decided their only choices are between the Biden administration and corporate greed.”
“Harris chose the latter,” Rampell added.
