A Massachusetts theater has apologized after fans complained online about an event where actor Richard Dreyfuss made several political and cultural comments that some in the audience disagreed with.
The event, titled “An Evening Screening of Jaws with Richard Dreyfuss,” took place at the Cabot Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts, where Dreyfuss is said to have spoken about his book and past projects, as well as the Me Too movement and transgenderism.
Like an outlet deadline And that The Hollywood Reporter The paper cited a series of Facebook comments from alleged spectators, but said nothing Dreyfuss said at the event could be deemed “transphobic” or “sexist.”
What we can confirm, though, is that Dreyfuss took to the stage wearing a cane and a dress to sing along to Taylor Swift songs. video He then stripped the actor of his dress and sat down in his blazer.
“We need to make sure that your children are not the last generation of Americans.”
According to his social media accounts, Dreyfuss spoke about Barbra Streisand (who produced his film “Nuts”), calling her a “genius,” but also pointing out that the reason the film was “boring” was because women were “passive.”
“You shouldn’t listen to a 10-year-old who says he wants to be a boy, not a girl,” the actor said, according to another person who was allegedly in attendance.
His comments were consistently characterized as intentionally trying to push the boundaries, but when I recall his comments, they are nowhere close to any form of bigotry, except in the minds of progressive activists.
Some of the comments, which were videotaped during the question-and-answer portion of the event, were made while Dreyfuss was promoting her upcoming book, “One Thought Scares Me,” due to be published in 2022.

“We regret that what was meant to be a forum for dialogue celebrating an iconic film became a platform for expressing political views. We take full responsibility for our failure to anticipate the direction of the conversation and for the offense caused to many in our audience.”
“We are actively engaged in dialogue with our patrons about their experiences and are committed to learning from this event how to better execute on our mission to entertain, educate and inspire our community,” they concluded.

“Now we have people who think that dissent is un-American. They don’t know that dissent is intertwined and permeated with the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and what we believe in and what we stand for in the world,” he told Beck.
“I think if we let our kids decide what is valuable and what is nurturing, we are going to turn to the wrong people.”
Dreyfuss also reportedly screened Jaws at another venue in New Hampshire, and at least one audience member alleges that he made offensive comments at that event as well.
