Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-New York) said on CNN News Central on Thursday that the situation at the US-Mexico border has “calmed down a little bit” recently, but that it’s only temporary and “as soon as the Mexican elections are over, we’re going to see another surge, people will start to gather at the border again and people will start to worry about what’s going on.” Suozzi also called on President Joe Biden to take executive action at the border if a bipartisan bill can’t be passed by Congress.
“It’s calmed down a little bit right now, but as soon as the Mexican elections are over, we’re going to see another surge,” Suozzi said. “We’re going to see people congregate at the border again and start to worry about what’s going on. We need to bring order to the border.”
Suozzi added that he understands Biden “has to be tougher and more humane,” but if the Senate border bill or another bipartisan border bill doesn’t pass, “the president is going to have to take executive action. And those executive actions should be, number one, to try to secure the border. And number two, to treat people as human beings.”
