International travelers who want to know their destination's local currency now have access to a handy new tool to make their lives easier, built into every iPhone.
Gone are the days when you had to use Google every time you looked up prices at a foreign supermarket or restaurant. A clever new time-saving feature released with the recent iOS 18 update doesn't even require data to work.
Avid adventurer Bianca Montalvo talks about smart shortcuts on social media. video It quickly racked up over 700,000 views on TikTok.
“Simply open the calculator app on your phone and click on the icon in the bottom left corner,” Montalvo explained to viewers.
This simple action displays a short menu. Turn on the Convert option at the bottom, select the country you're in (or your destination), and the calculator will do its magic.
“Your calculator is now a currency converter, making it easy to exchange money while traveling abroad without having to download another app,” explained the tech-loving tripper.
Currency rates are known to fluctuate all the time, but there is no need to worry if you use this tool offline. Montalvo said the rate updates automatically every time your phone connects to Wi-Fi or data.
Commenters were quick to point out that users can also use the app to convert miles to kilometers, pounds to kilograms, and more.
“I was 1 year old today when I found out about this. Game changer!” another raved.
“They can't remove this app. We've all learned a lot,” said one TikTokker, referring to the app's uncertain future in the US.
iPhone users were similarly surprised earlier this week when a friendly tech shared another set of tricks to extend your smartphone's battery life that you should know while traveling.
Refreshing apps in the background and turning off some display features were all mentioned as easy ways to save power while jet-setting.
