‘They Are Never Held Accountable’: Rooke Details Truth Behind Hate Crime Hoax Exposed In ‘Demand For Hate’

Daily Caller columnist Mary Luke spoke on One American News Network (OAN) Thursday night to expand on the truths exposed in the Caller’s new documentary, “Demand for Hate,” which exposes the lies and impact of the hate crimes myth.

Luke appeared on “The Tipping Point with Kara McKinney” to discuss the medium’s new film, which follows Morgan Bettinger, a former University of Virginia (UVA) student who was labeled a racist after an encounter with Black Lives Matter activists in 2020. During a Black Women’s Matter protest near the campus that closed off roads near the school, Bettinger was talking to a truck driver who was blocking the road with his car.

According to reports, the former student told the driver she was very grateful he was there to stop the car from turning the protesters into a speed bump, but activists nearby did not spread the same story. Activist Zayana Bryant, then a student at the University of Virginia, led the movement to cancel Bettinger, alleging that he had threatened protesters, telling them “you’d make a good speed bump.” (Related: Demand For Hate | Streaming Now)

Host Kara McKinney asked Luke about his thoughts on the left’s “demand for hate,” suggesting that a “supply and demand” for mayhem may be a primary motivator for hate crimes like Bettinger’s.

“So [the left] “They have to fabricate facts to prove their point,” Luke said. “One of the psychologists who speaks in the film says, [in] Humans instinctively always seek leaders. So in today’s secular world, we no longer look to God for leadership. Essentially, we look to charismatic figures to guide us in whatever we want to do in our daily lives. These protesters are drawn to figures like Bryant, who are loud, who are loud, who are bombastic, who try to get people on their side.”

“What’s sad is that people like Bryant who ruined Morgan Bettinger’s life will never be held accountable,” she added. “How many times have you seen these hateful hoaxes repeated? When someone writes the N-word or a swastika on a school bathroom stall, you know it’s not actually a white supremacist coming out to attack people. Have you ever heard anything like that?”

“No, the elite media loves to play the racism game,” she continued. “They’ll run as many stories as they can in prime time, but when it comes time to retract a story or help real victims like the Morgan Bettinger shipwreck, they put it at the end of the 11 o’clock news where no one really pays attention, or on the last page of the printed newspaper. No one really talks about how this ruined her life.”

Luke blamed the University of Virginia administration for failing to take responsibility for the fact that Bettinger was the target of vicious online harassment, leading some of her classmates to expel her and refuse to let her attend classes. The Daily Caller columnist said what’s most disappointing is that the university administration is leaning “to the side of what we know to be factually wrong.”

“Another important point is that the president and administration of the University of Virginia are holding themselves accountable,” Luke continued. “So Morgan Bettinger was the daughter of a police officer who died of cancer when she was 16 years old. She had no father figure in her life to protect her from the onslaught of the mob, and the president of the university completely abandoned her. She was pushed out of everything, but this was after the school investigated and ruled that she was not guilty of so-called racism or attempted assault of a classmate. None of these things actually happened, but the president was not in a position to support her because the student government determined that she was guilty of these things.”

“…A lot of professors come out publicly and say, ‘The university invests millions of dollars in diversity and equity and inclusion programs,’ and if they find out that the mob is leaning to one side, instead of doing the right thing, they’re going to side with the mob that they’re essentially paying for and investing in, because if they don’t, they’re going to lose their money. To me, what’s probably most sad about this whole situation is that they’re leaning to the side that they know is factually wrong,” she added.

Although a student committee reviewed the incident and agreed with the former student, Bettinger was subsequently ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, attend left-wing re-education classes, and was expelled. “Demand for Hate,” released this month, explores the gravity of how stories like Bettinger’s can ruin lives, even if they are based on lies.
