Democratic strategist James Carville, like others in the party, is growing increasingly concerned about President Joe Biden’s chances of reelection.
The 79-year-old partisan said in March that seeing Biden’s approval ratings was “like stumbling upon your grandma naked. I can’t get that image out of my mind.”
At the time, Biden had a 40% approval rating and a 55% disapproval rating. Things aren’t improving for the aging president.

Carville advised unsuccessful presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and ran Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign.
Said In March, The New York Times criticized Biden for losing support among black voters, particularly black men, and suggested that this was partly due to the “preachy women” who dominate Democratic Party culture.

Thursday’s Episode Speaking on the “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville assessed some of the strategic problems facing Democrats heading into the 2024 election, including their inability to identify and align around an effective line of attack against Trump.
He suggested another issue is the White House’s leftward shift, an issue that may be contributing to Biden’s slump in the polls, where he is currently lagging behind former President Donald Trump both nationally and in key battleground states.
“They’re not even going to win in areas that are heavily Democratic, and that puts them at odds with the loose base voters that we need to win.”
“If there’s one question I want the Biden administration to answer, it’s, ‘Why are they so afraid of the left?'” Carville says. “I mean, they’re screwing the left over on immigration. They’re not even winning in heavily Democratic areas, putting them at odds with the loose base we need. They have little connection with black Americans. And yet they’re proportionally overpowering.”
While Carville acknowledged he doesn’t understand the trend, he said, “There must be a reason. I don’t know why people are afraid of these people. I really don’t know. They’re just dragging their feet in every way. But maybe one day someone will explain it to me.”
In addition to being dragged down by fellow extremists, Carville has elsewhere suggested that Biden’s dwindling approval ratings are due to old age.

Said “The age issue is plaguing Biden. He has to bring up the fact that he is only four years older than Trump,” Biden’s former press secretary, Jen Psaki, said on Monday.

FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver recently
I got it.“Normally, when you’re trailing in an election, and Biden is trailing right now in most of the battleground state polls, you want more uncertainty, more variance. So you want more debates, because debates add uncertainty to an election. But Biden wants fewer debates. To me, that’s a really, really, really, really bad sign for his campaign.”

Focus on it“If Biden is still struggling in August, he should consider stepping down. It’s not a good situation for the Democratic Party either way, but we need to pay close attention to this issue. It’s clearly an important election. It shouldn’t be a taboo thing to talk about.”
