Armed Robbers Disguise as Delivery Men in San Francisco Heist
Over the weekend, armed robbers posing as delivery personnel broke into a residence in San Francisco, tying up the homeowner in the process. They made off with the victim’s cell phone, laptop, and an astonishing $11 million worth of cryptocurrency.
This audacious robbery took place around 6:45 a.m. on Saturday in the Mission Dolores neighborhood, according to local police. Reports note that the perpetrators, under the guise of couriers, brandished a firearm and restrained the victim with duct tape before deciding to leave with their haul.
Details about the incident remain sketchy, including whether the homeowner sustained any injuries or if any suspects have been caught. The San Francisco Police Department has not provided further information, and attempts to reach out for a comment went unanswered.
This incident appears to be part of a troubling trend, as violent kidnappings and attempted robberies targeting cryptocurrency investors are on the rise. In March, a similar situation occurred involving influencer Caitlin Siragusa, who was targeted for her substantial earnings from online platforms. Earlier in May, two men were charged with kidnapping an Italian billionaire in New York City, seeking his Bitcoin password.
Experts indicate that digital currencies are more challenging to trace compared to traditional forms of cash, making them appealing for criminals looking to launder money. Steve Kristek, CEO of PFC Safeguards, has remarked that these kidnappings are increasingly common, especially as many cryptocurrency enthusiasts tend to showcase their wealth openly.
