North Carolina Authorities Arrest Third Suspect in Home Invasion Case

On Wednesday, law enforcement in North Carolina reported the arrest of a third individual linked to a violent home invasion. This incident involved several undocumented immigrants who allegedly made threats of kidnapping, robbery, and sexual assault against at least one victim.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office detailed that detectives apprehended 22-year-old John Carlos Calderon on Monday, following an attack that occurred on February 11 in Greenville, which resulted in the victim being hospitalized.

Calderon, also from Greenville, adds to a growing list of suspects, joining 20-year-old Jonathan David Garcia-Lario, who is homeless, and 21-year-old Zaid Mayen from Chapel Hill, both already in custody.

Investigators are still looking into Calderon’s immigration status. He is currently held at the Pitt County Detention Center without bail.

All three suspects face serious charges, including first-degree felonies such as forcible sexual assault, kidnapping, and robbery, as well as using a deadly weapon with intent to commit bodily harm. Garcia-Lario was the first to be arrested on Friday, with Mayen following later that same day.

Police indicated that evidence linked to the crime was discovered in Mayen’s apartment in Chapel Hill, which is situated about two hours from where the crime occurred.

The Department of Homeland Security has been notified, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken both Garcia-Lario and Mayen into custody, instructing local officials to extend their detention for federal action.

Garcia-Lario remains in custody at the Pitt County Detention Center, while Mayen is being held in Orange County Jail, also without bail.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation and the arrests were supported by various agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Chapel Hill Police Department.

While the victim was transported to a local hospital, details regarding the injuries sustained have not yet been confirmed. Authorities are still seeking additional information regarding the case.
