Fifth Third Bank Opens First Alabama Location

Today marks a significant milestone as one of the largest banks in the U.S. opens its very first retail branch in Alabama.

Fifth Third Bank, which is based in Cincinnati, is launching its Huntsville location as part of a broader strategy to grow its presence in the southeastern region.

The new branch can be found at 5901-B University Drive.

This opening is just the start of an ambitious plan, with a total of 15 financial centers anticipated to launch in Alabama by the end of 2028. The bank aims to establish an additional 200 locations, primarily in the South, over the next three years.

There are plans for 10 financial centers in Huntsville and five more in Birmingham.

According to Sean Neehaus, who leads the Fifth Third consumer bank, Huntsville stands out as a prime spot for expansion, especially with an average of 11 new residents moving to the area daily.

He mentioned that the bank has further expansion plans across Alabama through Huntsville.

“When considering the connectivity to aerospace, military, and technology sectors, Huntsville to Nashville presents a strong corridor for us,” he explained.

The bank utilizes a geospatial “heatmap” through its Market Strength Index (MSI) to pinpoint the best potential branch locations in the city. The MSI analyzes vast amounts of data to assess new site opportunities.

“We really dive deep in our research. This is where we focus most of our attention,” he noted. “We want to establish ourselves within the community. Our aim is to be a relationship-focused bank.”

A grand opening celebration is planned for September 26th.

“We’re excited to establish ourselves here. The goal is to grow and sustain,” he added. “We believe our presence will significantly benefit the communities, not just for our customers but in terms of future job growth and investments. That’s what really excites us.”
