Kennedy Center Employee Fired Over Beliefs

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a taxpayer-funded venue in Washington, D.C., offers various performing arts and educational programs.

Floyd Brown, the center’s vice president of development, claims he was let go due to his opposition to gay marriage and his commitment to his Christian beliefs.

Brown asserts that he was terminated on May 28 after CNN reached out about past remarks he made regarding gay people in the GOP. He had previously stated his belief that homosexuality is a “sin” and a “punishment that comes to a country that rejects God.”

“The only explanation I received was that I needed to abandon my past statements regarding my beliefs on traditional marriage, or I’d be fired. I refused to comply and was subsequently dismissed,” Brown mentioned in a post on X.

Meanwhile, CNN released an article titled “Far-right activists with a history of anti-gay comments who were fired from their leadership role at the Kennedy Center after the CNN investigation.”

Commenting on the matter, host Ally Beth Stucky expressed uncertainty regarding Brown’s interpretation but acknowledged it as concerning for those who share similar conservative Christian views on marriage.

“For anyone who upholds the biblical definition of marriage, this could feel alarming. If you’re a Christian in the Trump administration, don’t allow this to intimidate you,” she advised.

“It’s not just right; it’s significant,” she concluded.
