Nineteen people were taken into custody following a brutal home invasion at the same Aurora, Colorado, apartment building that has made national headlines for past immigration crimes.

Chamberlain said the victims were eventually released after they promised their captors not to report them to authorities. The man and woman then drove away and called police.

The police chief acknowledged the history of Venezuela-related criminal activity that has plagued the area recently, saying, “We have been actively focusing on that apartment complex.” “As everyone here knows, and the public knows, this complex is an incredibly troubled complex. It's an incredibly crime-ridden complex. And that's what we've been focusing on.”

“Unfortunately, when you look at this type of activity, most of them are unquestionably or perhaps most likely Venezuelans, especially given that everyone involved in this is most likely Venezuelan.” “We believe at this time that they are either illegal aliens or immigrants to Venezuela,” Chamberlain continued. “Again, unfortunately, these people, like many gangs and many individuals involved in this type of activity, have sacrificed their race and ethnicity. .”

The Aurora Police Department has not released the identities of all of the suspects, but Chamberlain said they have contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement to confirm the backgrounds of everyone involved.

The incident occurred at the Edge at Raleigh apartment complex in Aurora. viral doorphone video National media coverage of immigrant criminal activity in Colorado City began in August when a gunman was captured attacking the area on the same day a man was shot. Aurora leaders initially denied that Torren de Aragua, a violent international gang with origins in Venezuela, was responsible for the apartment's devastation, but a subsequent investigation confirmed the gang's presence at the apartment.

Aurora, like many communities across the country, has felt the effects of the unprecedented border crisis experienced under the Biden-Harris administration. Denver, a major sanctuary city just a few miles away, opened its doors to tens of thousands of immigrants before being forced to withdraw services as the crisis continues, but not before sending many of those migrants to Aurora. There wasn't. Mayor's regret.

The city is trying to crack down on the threat posed by immigrant gangs and has proposed increasing police funding by millions of dollars.

Chamberlain said Monday night's incident was “without a doubt” gang-related, and said there was a “high estimate” that Torren de Aragua was involved, but he could not yet confirm it. .

“This is definitely a gang incident,” he said. “We don't know yet which gang they belong to. It could be TdA. [Tren de Aragua]. That can't be TdA. ”

“We're going to determine that and clarify that,” the police chief continued. “But at the moment, as I said before, unless you self-identify as having TdA, it's very difficult to definitively identify it as TdA because there are no specific markers or specific identifiers.”
