‘This Is Really American Democracy in the Balance’

Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude Jr. said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Jose Díaz-Balart Report” that the Supreme Court considering arguments in President Donald Trump’s presidential immunity lawsuit is “truly America’s worst.” Democracy is in balance.”

“We’re talking about the scope of presidential power, we’re talking about the nature of the separation of powers, and we’re at the heart of American democracy right now,” Glaude said.

He added: “As we watch this, this is a huge drama, but this is happening against the backdrop of protests across the country, and this is the first time we’ve seen the president in court.” Stated. This is just American democracy in balance. As an American, I’m trying to understand what my intuition is saying. Where are we as a country at this moment? ”

Glaude added, “I think it’s also very important to understand that these presidents also operated within certain norms. They held to certain values. What happens when you have an actor in the White House who appears to have unlimited executive powers unbound by norms? You find yourself in a situation where you have to clarify such issues in order to draw boundaries. ”
