Former President Trump dismissed the idea that he would lose voters who supported former Republican presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley in Thursday’s primary.
“Well, she got a relatively small percentage of the vote…I think she got close to 90%.” the former president said In an interview with Scripps News’ Charles Benson, he was asked if he would try to win back voters who voted for Haley in primaries like Wisconsin.
“Her voters were few and far between,” Trump continued. “And all those voters are coming to me, but they have a very unwieldy little system, so there may be a lot of Democrats in there. But those voters is coming to me. We just did a poll where we are leading. [President Biden] We’ve got a pretty big lead in Wisconsin…I like to say, we’re up by two or three points, and we’ve had games where we’ve led him by five points. ”
President Trump’s comments continuedg in the gp primary Despite dropping out several months ago, Haley received significant support from voters. According to election results from Decision Desk Headquarters, the former U.N. ambassador received 20% of the vote in the Maryland primary, 18% in the Nebraska primary, and 9.4% in the West Virginia primary. It took place earlier this week.
President Biden and his campaign are trying to woo Haley voters, based on their clear dissatisfaction with the former president.
“Donald Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t want a Nikki Haley supporter,” Biden said in March. “Let me be clear: They have a place in my campaign.”
Earlier this year, the Biden campaign ran an ad during the Republican presidential primary that featured footage of Trump criticizing Haley, saying, “If you vote for Nikki Haley, Donald Trump will vote for you.” “I don’t want that,” he warned.
Haley also received 21.7% of the vote in last week’s Indiana primary, according to election results from Decision Desk Headquarters.
