Threat to Italy’s Meloni Linked to Palestine Activists by Charlie Kirk

Threat to Italy's Meloni Linked to Palestine Activists by Charlie Kirk

Authorities are looking into what appears to be a serious death threat that emerged at railway stations in Turin during a wave of protests led by anti-Israel activists.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed a certain level of pride in being compared to the recently assassinated political figure Charlie Kirk. This comparison was scrawled on a wall at the Turin Porta Susa station. The phrase “Meloni: Like Kirk” suggests a troubling undertone.

This threat raises alarms, especially considering Italy’s long history with political violence. Sources suggest the situation has intensified against a backdrop of European political unrest over the last fifty years, particularly following Kirk’s assassination in the U.S. Police are currently probing this alarming message.

Meloni downplayed the implicit threat, saying, “They wrote it as a threat. But those who live in hatred and intimidation will never be like Charlie Kirk, because they don’t grasp the value of dialogue, conflict, and democracy.”

She noted her pride in the comparison, asserting that those who resort to violence “will always remain trapped by it. We will continue to walk freely and confidently with our ideas.”

Regional leaders in the Piedmont area condemned the threat. Alberto Silio, President of Piedmont, expressed his full solidarity with Meloni, calling the actions “unacceptable.”

Deputy President of Piedmont described the threat as humiliating for the Italian political landscape, stating, “It’s not acceptable to call for the death of a political opponent. It’s a disgrace to the millions who believe in freedom and democracy.”

The concerning message coincided with protests at Torino Station, where activists called for a shutdown of the city. Protesters from both the left and right initiated a “general strike” across Italy to voice their discontent with Meloni’s government, which recognizes Palestinian statehood and has not aligned with nations like Britain and France on certain issues.

Earlier protests in Milan resulted in injuries to over 60 police officers due to confrontations with AntifaRadicals, who attacked the railway station and instigated riots. Activists could be heard chanting, “It’ll be an Intifada here too.” Local leaders criticized these “troublemakers” for exploiting public sympathy for Gaza to engage in sheer violence.

Turin soon became the center of similar unrest, as the “general strike” continued. The Porta Susa platform was blocked, disrupting train services significantly.
