Three 12-year-old boys were shot to death at gunpoint in Texas on Christmas night by a man who was trying to rob them, police said.
The group of armed children looked so young that the unidentified 25-year-old robbery victim and his girlfriend initially thought it was a prank when the boys jumped on them outside their Houston apartment building. I thought. ABC13 reported.
But when they tried to shove him up, the 25-year-old pulled out his own gun and fired, wounding three of the boys.
The report said one of them – just 12 – was hospitalized in critical condition.
Two others, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, returned to the scene for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. A 14-year-old boy, who was not injured, was also taken into custody.
Officials said the 25-year-old man who killed him remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. According to ABC 13, he is not currently facing charges.
Neighbor Bruce Bailey said he called police after hearing the most seriously injured of the boys scream in pain, telling them he was “just a kid.”
