Shooting at Seattle Food Festival Claims Three Lives

Three individuals were killed and four more injured during a shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival, which took place at the Seattle Center near the iconic Space Needle.

According to Seattle Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis, one suspect turned themselves in to authorities Sunday night, while another remains at large. He noted that responding officers did not have to use their firearms during the incident.

“It appeared that two individuals were firing at each other,” Davis mentioned during a late-night press conference.

Authorities reported early Monday that the deceased victims included a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman. Two of them died on site, while the third passed away later in the hospital.

Currently, four people—including a 2-year-old boy—are hospitalized but are said to be in stable condition.

Officers were quick to administer CPR and first aid to the injured at the scene, and two were pronounced dead immediately. A total of seven victims were noted, as one more arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

“This is truly a tragedy. It’s really sad that something like this occurred,” Davis stated. “The Seattle Bite is generally a very positive event. Thankfully, police were there to prevent additional casualties.”

He also added that the investigation would be ongoing and that they would remain at the scene for several hours to gather details.

The police chief said that the first suspect is being interrogated and that two firearms were recovered as part of the investigation.

While Davis did not disclose the suspect’s age, he did describe them as a “young person.”

“What transpired at the Seattle Center today was a horrific act of violence,” commented Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson. “Gun violence is a significant issue in this city and across the nation. Just last week, we experienced three incidents of gun violence within a few days.”

Videos from the event captured the moments of the shooting, showing people jumping over fences and seeking refuge in the Space Needle lobby as the chaos unfolded. The Space Needle is expected to remain closed as investigations continue.
