Grave Discovery in Detroit Basement

Authorities in Michigan report the arrest of one individual in a disturbing case involving the discovery of three elderly men found dead in a basement in Detroit.

Emergency services responded to a residence on Edsel Street around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. During their search for a missing person, they encountered a man who claimed to have been assaulted at a nearby location.

“They were left in the basement covered in old, dirty clothes, and one was covered in carpet,” noted a police spokesperson.

Upon entering the home, officers were met with a shocking scene, with one official describing it as “just a horrifying sight.” It appears that all three victims suffered blunt force trauma, with some also having stab wounds. They were indeed found in deplorable conditions.

Family members have identified one of the victims as 66-year-old Army veteran Norman Hamlin. The other two were named as 65-year-old Mark Barnett and 72-year-old William Barrett.

Local residents have reported that the home was known for drug activity. One police official mentioned, “I don’t want to get into it too much, but there is some speculation that maybe drugs were used at that location,” although nothing substantial has been uncovered so far.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man with connections to the victims and a history of serious offenses, including armed robbery and fleeing law enforcement, was apprehended on Thursday.

“It was a brutal scene inside, it was really horrible,” stated one police representative.

One neighbor expressed that Hamlin had been a good person who unfortunately became involved in drugs. “I think he was trying to create a safe environment, but it drew in the wrong crowd,” the neighbor recalled.

Interestingly, the man who approached the police initially claimed to have been struck in the head with a hammer, although it appeared unrelated to the deaths of the three men.

Hamlin, a Marine veteran who served in the Gulf War, was the homeowner.
