A 12-year-old girl and two 13-year-olds were arrested this week in Washington, D.C., for a brutal attack in which they chased a disabled man down an alley and stomped him to death in 2023, according to reports.
The three girls were allegedly caught on camera carrying out what detectives described as the “horrendous” attack and murder of Reggie Brown in the late hours of October 17th.
The graphic video showed a group of five girls chasing a disabled 64-year-old man down an alley and pulling him off a chain-link fence as he desperately tried to escape.
They stomped his head on concrete, then pulled his pants down to his ankles and used their own belts to beat him, investigators testified in court Friday. According to the Washington Post.
As Brown began bleeding from the head, the deranged group laughed and one of the girls allegedly shouted, “It’s leaking!”
Brown was found dead in the street just before 1 a.m., suffering from severe injuries from the assault. According to the Metropolitan Police Department. A subsequent autopsy listed his cause of death as blunt force trauma.
Police said Brown was disabled and had mental health issues. He also had a metal plate implanted in his head, and he only had two fingers on each hand.
“My uncle really didn’t deserve this,” Brown’s niece said. Statement to News4.
“He’s been known in this community for years, so for something like this to happen where he’s lived for 64 years.” [years] It’s insane. They must be held accountable! ”
Detective Harry Singleton testified that a man in his early 20s began the attack by grabbing Brown by the chest and throwing him against a brick wall.
At that time, some girls happened to be passing by, and one of them asked the man: “Can I fight him?” He answered “Yes”.
Police said a 12-year-old girl dragged Brown over a fence and beat him with a belt, all the while filming the sickening scene on her cell phone.
Investigators stressed that the girls did not know the man they killed, but they are still investigating whether the stranger who started the fight did.
One of the girls told police that two of the assailants did not want to hit Brown, but were forced to do so after the stranger pointed a gun to her waistband and threatened her.
The murder suspects remained at large until Thursday, when one of the 13-year-old girls was taken into custody following a court order.
Around 4 a.m. that night, the 12-year-old girl was shot in an apartment about a half-mile from where Brown was injured.
She was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police haven’t said whether the gunshots came from inside the apartment or outside, but neighbors told News4 they saw two young men fleeing through a broken window into an alley. .
The preschooler and a third girl were arrested later that day.
None of them have prior arrest records, but all three have long-standing problems with truancy. One of the teens did not attend a single day of class in 2024, the judge said.
All three are charged with second-degree murder and are being tried as juveniles.
