Three Illinois cities will pay you thousands to move there

Illinois (KTVI) — At least three cities in Illinois are offering to pay people thousands of dollars to relocate. Under certain conditions, of course.

This opportunity comes as Illinois has lost about 240,000 people since the start of the 2020s. According to new census figures Released this week. It is not necessarily a causal trend, but rather a coincidence of some new regional incentives.

The three cities that openly offer incentives have much smaller populations than the rest of the state, all less than 20,000 people. Financial experts say providing some assistance could help cities stabilize their populations, grow their economies and improve neighborhoods in the long run.

The following three cities offer incentives to people who complete the move into their communities.

jacksonville

County: Morgan
Population: 17,600 people
Distance from St. Louis: 90-100 miles (1 hour 40 minutes)

This total includes $5,000 cash for relocation, a $300 check from the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, and additional community service for a total of $9,300.

Those interested in taking advantage of this opportunity must make at least $50,000 a year, be at least 18 years old, and live at least 70 miles outside of Jacksonville at the time of application. According to the city’s application page, the city is recruiting remote workers who meet these qualifications and more.

Mattoon

County: Coles
Population: 16,800
Distance from St. Louis: 125-135 miles (2 hours)

This total includes $5,000 in cash for relocation, $500 in local restaurant coupons, $500 in Rural King gift cards, and other gift cards, certificates, and community service for a total in the five digits. .

Those who want to take advantage of this opportunity must earn at least $45,000 a year and live at least 100 miles outside of Mattoon at the time of application.
