Three more House Democrats call on Biden to drop out of presidential race

Three more House Democrats have called on President Biden to end his reelection campaign after the 81-year-old president referred to Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump” during a closely watched press conference on Thursday night.

The top Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, Reps. Jim Himes, Eric Sorensen and Scott Peters, became the latest members of their party to publicly plead with the aging president to retire at the end of his term.

“The 2024 election will determine the future of American democracy, and we must put up the strongest candidate possible to counter the threat of MAGA authoritarianism promised by Trump, and I no longer believe that is Joe Biden,” said Rep. Himes (D-Conn.). It said in a statement It was shared by X minutes after Biden’s press conference ended.

“And I expect that, as he has done throughout his life of public service, he will continue to put our country first and, as he has promised, pave the way for a new generation of leaders,” he added.

The latest three are part of a growing list of Democrats begging Biden to step aside and field a new nominee.

He praised Biden for his commitment to putting country first and called on him to do so again by stopping his campaign rally.

“Every day, I continue to work hard for the people of central and northwestern Illinois, and I believe our best days are yet to come,” he said in a statement. “And today, I expect President Biden to step down from the presidential campaign trail.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Peters (D-Calif.) issued a short and succinct statement after the president’s “big boy” press conference.

“Today, I call on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race,” Peters said in a statement. Obtained by Politico“The stakes are high and we are in for a loss.”

Before Biden’s press conference, in a particularly embarrassing moment, introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “Putin,” 14 House Democrats called on him to withdraw from the presidential race.

Calls for him to resign began growing after his disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump last month.
