Reports indicate that following his defeat in the 2024 re-election race, Ohio Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown is gearing up for another run for his Senate seat in 2026.

Brown’s intentions were revealed by three Ohio labor leaders he confided in. Additionally, other Ohio Democrats have echoed these plans, suggesting they learned about them through Brown’s trusted circle. This news comes amid reports that Brown is actively seeking campaign managers for his next bid.

He was ousted by Republican Bernie Moreno, who secured 50.2% of the vote in a closely contested race.

Senate Democrats Focus on Regaining Majority in 2026

Interestingly, despite his loss, Sen. Chuck Schumer has been in talks to support Brown’s candidacy for several months.

If Brown runs, he will likely face current Ohio Sen. John Husted, who was appointed to fill the seat left vacant by Vice President J.D. Vance. The upcoming special election is crucial, as it will determine who serves the remainder of Vance’s term until 2029.

Tyson Shepherd, Husted’s campaign spokesperson, remarked that if Brown enters the race, he would be seen as a candidate with considerable political vulnerabilities. Shepherd argues that Brown’s appeal may be diminishing as his base becomes weary of his policies, which he claims are influenced by leaders from California and New York.

Bernie Sanders Contemplates 2028 Run

Ohio has historically been a critical battleground state, and recent trends show a lean towards Republican candidates. In the 2024 election, for instance, Trump won Ohio by over ten percentage points.

Since leaving the Senate, Brown has established the Dignity of Labor Institute, emphasizing the importance of valuing workers in the economy and society.

At this moment, attempts to reach both Brown and his representatives for comments were unsuccessful.
