A horrific random attack in Dallas over the weekend saw an unidentified man swing a “5-foot tree branch” like a baseball bat and strike a man in the back of the head. You can see the security camera footage of the attack. here.
The victim, Adam Mercado, and his girlfriend, Taylor Monette, were in downtown Dallas early Saturday morning and decided to meet up with friends at City Tavern. KXAS-TV reported..
“I am constantly on guard and I urge you all to keep your heads up, because this happened because we let our guard down for 10 seconds.”
“We were walking by and we noticed this gentleman carrying a big stick, like a spear,” Mercado told KXAS. “At first, my senses were kind of going haywire, my instincts were kind of going haywire, so I said, ‘Yeah, let’s go in and get a drink.’
Police said the couple decided to leave the shop at around 2am and were on the terrace outside the shop when the attack happened.
“That’s when I felt it,” Mercado told KXAS. “The sound was loud, like a gunshot. That’s what scared me.”
The video shows the man walking across a patio and then stopping behind Mercado, who brandishes the stick, which Mercado calls a “5-foot tree branch” in the YouTube video. explanationWhen the man struck Mercado in the back of the head, part of the stick broke and Mercado fell to the ground.
The video also shows the gunman punching another man, a City Tavern employee according to KXAS, who apparently approached in an attempt to intervene and knocked the suspect to the ground before he ran off. Dallas police told the department that investigators have not yet identified the suspect.
In the video, Monette can be seen trying to call for help for her boyfriend, telling KXAS, “I ran into the bar, I was screaming, I was calling for somebody to help me.”
The couple told the station they declined an ambulance ride because of the potential expense. “We ended up going to the hospital a couple of hours later because my head, my ears, everything was ringing and hurting,” Mercado recalled to KXAS. “And we knew we had to get checked out.”
Mercado was diagnosed with a concussion and later experienced lingering pain and brain fog, as well as a fear of leaving her apartment after the attack, the station said.
“It’s really traumatizing. I’ve never experienced violence before,” he told KXAS. “It’s very surreal.”
I expect to be billed a lot of money for the hospital bills for several tests, and I won’t be able to work for a while, WFAA-TV Mercado is GoFundMe page To help reduce costs.
WFAA noted that he also issued a warning to others who are out and about like him: “I’m always on guard, and I want you all to keep your head on your feet, too, because for 10 seconds I let my guard down and this happened.”
