Thune Expresses Concern Over Tylenol Claims

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has expressed significant interest in the contentious assertions made by President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding the Department of Health and Human Services.

“I’m obviously quite worried about that,” Thune remarked in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Wednesday. He touched on his family, mentioning that he’s a father and grandfather, and welcomed a new grandson just seven months ago.

Thune acknowledged that the Trump administration has referenced research suggesting a connection between autism and Tylenol use. However, he was cautious about making definitive claims linking Tylenol to autism when used during pregnancy.

“I think many medical professionals may have arrived at a different conclusion regarding Tylenol usage,” he noted.

“Therefore, I believe we need to be careful when making broad statements and ensure they are strongly supported by scientific evidence,” he added.

Some senior officials are attempting to temper Trump’s recent warnings on Tylenol, encouraging pregnant women to heed medical advice.

“What I gathered from the president’s statements and the CDC guidelines is that we need to tread lightly. We know that certain medications can have side effects; yet, they may still be necessary,” Vance stated.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), weighed in on the issue Tuesday, urging pregnant women to consult their healthcare providers. He noted that Tylenol might be recommended if a high fever occurs.

“If you’re experiencing a high fever… talking to a doctor is crucial,” Oz said. “They’ll likely prescribe something, and Tylenol could be among the options.” His statements contrasted sharply with Trump’s stronger warnings against Tylenol during pregnancy, where he firmly stated, “I want to emphasize this: Don’t take Tylenol, just don’t.”
