Tiger Woods gives startling injury update ahead of The Players, will miss Augusta

Tiger Woods' body keeps him failing.

On Tuesday, Woods announced on social media that he had ruptured his Achilles tendon while training at home. He then had surgery to repair the tendon.

“I felt a sharp pain in Achilles on my left, but it seemed to have burst.” ” Woods said on social media.

“Charlton Stacken, a hospital for special surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair due to the ruptured tendon. “The surgery goes smoothly and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Stacken added. I'm going to go back home now and focus on recovery and rehabilitation. Thank you for all your support. ”

Woods had an eventful 2025, but there are all the wrong reasons. He lost his mother, Kultida on February 4th and retreated from Genesis Invitational the following week, saying he was not in the right mental framework to compete. He flew to San Diego for the final round and appeared on the CBS broadcast, presenting the trophy to Rudig Åberg, but he did nothing about when he would make his next play. In addition, Woods is deeply involved in the ongoing negotiations for the PGA tour with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Should Tiger Woods retire from competitive golf?

Some hoped he would play at this week's player championship, while others speculated that Woods would tee it next at Augusta National.

But now Achilles is ruptured, so Woods could miss the 2025 season for good. It's the second major operation that 15 major winners have undergone in the last six months as Woods had back surgery in September.

The injury appears to be a major setback for Woods, who has been out of the game for a while outside the TGL. His final PGA Tour start took place at the Open Championship at Royal Toon last July, where he missed a cut.
