Tiger Woods holds golf fashion future in fingertips after split with Nike Golf

For 27 years, people could easily identify Tiger Woods. He had a Nike Swoosh on his chest.

82 wins on the PGA Tour, marking the end of an era for the iconic brand. It's been a week since Woods announced their breakup, and it's still hard to imagine him wearing anything else.

The only time we saw him since playing in an official game was when he appeared on Foreplay Pod, where Woods was still wearing Nikes. Of course, it could have been filmed before the news broke. Nevertheless, it became difficult to visualize his “TW” logo on anything else.

But it will be. what brand What Woods will choose has not yet been determined or announced.

Rumors have surfaced that it could be Grayson Clothier or that TaylorMade is adding a clothing division to its growing brand. Some have suggested that he might launch his own production.

However, there are some things to consider with this decision of his. Woods has no intention of working with any clothing company. He can't do that.

To better understand this whole situation, I spoke to golf brand and gear expert Joshua Butler.he founded J. Butler Golf, A new luxury yet affordable apparel line created to change the idea of the cost of playing golf.

“It costs money to manage a relationship like Tiger Woods, and from a marketing standpoint, small businesses really can't compete,” Butler told Playing Through in an exclusive interview.

It would cost a company millions of dollars to take him on. Butler knows it can be detrimental if a brand isn't ready for someone like Woods and his greatness.

“Most of the time in this day and age, we can't afford to buy big-time players,” he says. “The sponsorship requirements and associated funding can bankrupt companies.”

Wouldn't it be great to see Woods invest in a smaller company? Yes, because he's one of the most famous figures in golf. He's the reason so many people of color picked up golf clubs.

Blackbold Golf, J. Butler Golf, Trap Golf, Golfer Bro and Atlanta's Eastside Golf are some of the brands he could work with.

The effort he put in working with HBCU athletes earlier this year showed he is committed to the community. If he chooses a minority-owned company, the business will change overnight.

“There are some really great up-and-coming brands that are owned by non-white people,” Butler said. “He could also start his own business and pivot towards helping underprivileged communities and under-resourced individuals.” You can do a great job if you choose to focus on it.”

Unfortunately, unless he's prepared to forget for a while about making money on the clothes he wears, small, minority-owned brands are out of the question.

It would be a great way for him to grow his game off the course, but at this point in his career, I don't see that as something he would do.

Butler believes Woods could join Footjoy because the company supplies shoes. Grayson Cloutier is another option Butler believed could take Woods because of his relationship with his close friend Justin Thomas. The brand also sponsors his son Charlie.

Tiger knows his height and what his name brings to golf. He's the one who moves the needle even though he hasn't played that much. It doesn't matter; people fell in love with the game because of him and they will continue to do so as long as he is involved in some way.

Wherever he goes next for clothing, he's sure to win a golden goose egg prize. This year has already seen major changes in golf fashion. We've already seen Jason Day leave Nike for Malbon Golf. The fact that Woods is a part of it means the landscape is headed in something else.

Where Woods goes next will depend on how many people realize what a cool thing to wear on the golf course. There may be a golf fashion movement in 2024.
