Tiger Woods’ potential Ryder Cup captaincy remains a mystery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Speculation continues to grow as to when. — Tiger Woods is announced as Bethpage Black’s 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain.

At the Masters last month, Woods was asked how the situation was going and said he planned to speak with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh in the coming days.

Asked Tuesday whether he had had such conversations and what the status was, Woods again offered some transparency about his thought process on the issue, but was evasive again.

“We’re still talking [but] Nothing has been confirmed yet,” Woods said. “I’m still figuring out what that’s going to look like. Also, if I’ll have the time to do it. I spend a lot of time working on what I’m working on on the PGA Tour. [on the policy board]If I can’t fulfill the role of captain, I don’t want to.

“That requires a commitment to representing Team USA and to the PGA of America, the players and the fans, and I need to feel like I can dedicate the time that it deserves.”

With the Olympics approaching this summer, the topic of who will represent the United States as a golfer is starting to be debated.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked player in the world and a lock on the U.S. team, said Tuesday he is fully committed to Paris.

“I’m definitely going to play,” Scheffler said. “I do think it’s a dream come true to be an Olympian,” he said. “It’s a small thing to be able to talk nonsense with friends who say golfers aren’t athletes. I can’t claim to be an Olympian. Masu.

“This is definitely a tournament on my schedule and I’m definitely going to play there if possible.”

Scheffler announced Tuesday that regular caddy Ted Scott will miss Saturday’s third round because he will be returning home for his daughter’s high school graduation.

Scott leaves after Friday’s round and is scheduled to return late Saturday in time to loop for Scheffler in Sunday’s final round.

“That’s something we talked about from the beginning of our relationship. Family always comes first, and that’s the same for me and my caddy,” Scheffler said. “It was a very easy decision. At the beginning of the year he said it was that day and I had him arrange for a backup caddy.

“One of my older friends, who travels here every week, is a touring chaplain. I trust him to rake bunkers more than my buddies.”

Brad Payne, a PGA Tour chaplain and close friend of Mr. Scheffler, plans to carry the bag Saturday, unless he misses the spot. Payne previously caddied for Paul Stankowski.

Scott was on Scheffler’s bag for all 10 of his wins on the PGA Tour.
