At the time of the incident, a photograph indicated what appeared to be Woods’ SUV tipped onto its side. Authorities discovered him at the crash site in Martin County, around 40 miles from West Palm Beach. According to an arrest affidavit, Woods did not succeed in a field sobriety test and had prescription painkillers found on him.
After the incident, Woods announced his intention to step back from public life for a while to focus on personal recovery.
Initially, Woods pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges for DUI and refusal to undergo testing. He also received a citation for careless driving and had a court appearance scheduled for September 8, which was later advanced to a Wednesday morning hearing.
The plea conference for the 15-time major champion is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Martin County Courthouse. It remains uncertain if Woods intends to change his plea or if his legal team has negotiated a plea agreement with the prosecution.

This latest rollover incident adds to a string of crashes involving Woods and poses yet another challenge in his attempt to make a comeback after dealing with persistent injuries.
Woods was severely hurt in a single-vehicle crash in February 2021 near Los Angeles, where his SUV rolled multiple times, leaving him trapped inside. He underwent emergency surgery for significant open fractures in his lower right leg, where doctors placed a rod in his tibia and utilized screws and pins in his foot and ankle. Following the operation, he spent several weeks in the hospital.
While Woods has not yet returned to competition, he remains engaged with the sport. Recently, he congratulated Scottie Scheffler on social media after Scheffler captured the Tour Championship, secured his second FedEx Cup title, and surpassed Woods in the PGA Tour’s career earnings tally. Woods noted, “Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No. 1. Those are some numbers to be proud of. Incredible consistency all season long. Congrats on a historic season, Scottie.”
