Tiger Woods Arrested for Drunk Driving After Rollover Crash
Reports have emerged from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicating that golf icon Tiger Woods has been arrested and faces charges including drunk driving, property damage, and refusal to take a urine test following a rollover incident in Florida on Friday.
The accident took place just after 2 p.m. ET on Jupiter Island, close to Woods’ residence, as stated by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, Woods did not sustain injuries from the crash.
Footage from WPTY displayed Woods’ SUV overturned on its side.
During a press conference, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek noted that Woods seemed unharmed. He mentioned that Woods cooperated with a breathalyzer test but declined to provide a urine sample.
Woods faces a misdemeanor charge and is expected to remain in the Martin County Jail for a minimum of eight hours.
Details reveal that the accident involved a pickup truck pulling a pressure washer and Woods’ Range Rover. Officers arriving at the scene suspected impairment and reached out to the sheriff’s office.
According to authorities, the truck was pulling into a driveway when the collision occurred. Sheriff Budensiek explained that the truck driver saw Woods’ Range Rover speeding past him and attempted to maneuver to the side of the road, but the narrow two-lane road left little room to do so.
Woods’ Range Rover reportedly swerved to prevent a collision but ended up hitting the back of the truck, leading to its rollover. Budensiek shared that Woods exited through the passenger side door.
DUI investigators arrived on-site and noticed signs of impairment in Woods, leading to his arrest after several evaluations. While he passed the breathalyzer test, he refused to perform the urine test.
Woods has been charged with DUI causing property damage and for refusing to comply with a legal test, according to Budensiek.
Investigators suggest that Woods may have been impaired by “some type of drug or narcotic.” Budensiek indicated that a clear determination regarding the cause of impairment may not be possible.
The driver of the truck involved in the incident was unharmed.
President Trump, a friend of Woods, expressed concern. He stated, “I feel so bad…a really close friend, a great person. He’s going through a little bit of trouble. Please pray for Tiger Woods!”
Woods has previously faced issues with car accidents and drunk driving. His career was nearly derailed in 2021 due to serious leg injuries from an accident in California.
Additionally, in 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Palm Beach County, Florida. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, participated in a DUI course, and paid a fine of $250.
