Disturbing allegations have been made against former major leaguer and current Tigers announcer Craig Monroe, and both the team and Bally Sports Detroit have taken steps to remove him from the booth, they confirmed in a joint statement Monday.
Monroe has not appeared on the show since June 9, with “personal reasons” explained last month.

“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the social media allegations and take them seriously. As previously stated, Mr. Monroe is not on the broadcast schedule and will remain so indefinitely. We will have no further comment and any questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe,” spokespeople for both organizations told the outlet.
As of press time, Monroe has yet to publicly comment on these allegations.
In graphic accusations made in social media posts, the unidentified woman alleged that the abuse began when Monroe was a 12-year-old minor league player living with his family in Charlotte County, Florida, and continued into his adulthood.
She also alleged that Monroe made her perform sex acts with friends and further alleged that he forced her to perform sex acts at his home while Monroe’s wife was upstairs.
The post only identifies the woman as a 35-year-old named Bree. Fox 2 in Detroit, She said she reached out to both Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers but hasn’t heard back from either organization.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office told Fox 2 they are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The accuser told the outlet that she knew there might be a public backlash to coming forward but waited to do so because she wanted to protect her family and herself.
Monroe played nine seasons in MLB before switching to broadcasting.
He began his career with the Rangers in 2001 and then spent six seasons with the Tigers before playing for the Cubs, Twins and Pirates.
Monroe retired in 2009 and began working in broadcasting for the Tigers in 2012.
He just took over as lead analyst for Bally Sports Detroit broadcasts this season, and it’s unclear what his future with the network will be following the serious allegations.
