Tim Cook and Jalen Brunson visit NYC Apple store for iPhone 17 launch

Tim Cook and Jalen Brunson Surprise Fans at Apple Store

This past Friday, Apple CEO Tim Cook and New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson made an unexpected appearance at the Apple Store in New York City.

As customers awaited their pre-ordered phones, they were dancing with excitement. Many seized the moment to take selfies with Cook, which seemed to enhance the atmosphere even further.

In a nice gesture, Cook even signed the back of one customer’s new device.

A CNBC anchor, commenting on the situation, likened the scene to fans lined up for a Taylor Swift concert, highlighting the excitement in the air.

The latest product lineup features the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, marking the first major redesign since 2017 with the ultra-thin iPhone Air. Additionally, new AirPods and an updated Apple Watch were introduced on the same day.

This launch stands in sharp contrast to last year’s, which saw a muted response due to perceived lack of innovation.

According to Apple, there is considerable early demand for the new devices, particularly from markets in China and the U.S.

However, not everyone was thrilled. Protesters showed up at the iPhone debut carrying signs criticizing Apple for its failure to adequately protect children online.

Steve Kovach from CNBC reported that numerous customers in line were there for the Pro model, indicating a solid demand for the higher-end phones.

The starting price for the 256GB iPhone 17 is $799, which is the same as the previous iPhone 16, but with less storage. For the iPhone 17 Pro, the price begins at $1,099 for the same storage size, mirroring last year’s pricing but lacking a more affordable option.

Analysts have speculated about the $999 price tag of the new iPhone Air, which is slotted alongside the other models in Apple’s lineup.

This much-anticipated Super Slim iPhone Air is merely 5.6mm thick and features a “space grade” titanium frame, available in four colors: white, black, gold, and sky blue.

The camera in the 17 lineup has seen notable upgrades, boasting four times the resolution of its predecessor, the iPhone 16.

Apple revealed that the new front camera sensor is nearly double the size of earlier models, a response to the 500 billion selfies snapped by users last year.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro showcases a fresh design, improved zoom camera, and larger battery, available in silver, dark blue, and orange.

The device is powered by the new A19 Pro chip, which offers computing capabilities comparable to those of a MacBook Pro.

Furthermore, Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 will feature live language translation, marking a first for the brand.

Priced at $249, these new AirPods boast enhanced audio capabilities, including improved noise cancellation, and continue to offer five different sizes for consumers.

With a battery life now extended to eight hours on a single charge, these wireless headphones represent a significant upgrade.

Lastly, the new Apple Watch Series 11 introduces health features like a blood pressure monitor that alerts users to potential issues.
