Tim Mynett addresses the expanding fraud investigation involving HSI.

Ilhan Omar, the Democratic representative from Minnesota, hasn’t made a public appearance since federal agents conducted a raid on her Washington, D.C. home earlier this week. However, her husband, Tim Mynett, was seen several times in their neighborhood, including taking their Golden Labrador Retriever, Teddy, for a walk and running errands.

During one of his outings, Mynett was approached and asked if there was any truth to the rumors that Omar had left the country. He responded, expressing frustration about the media presence, stating, “You guys are annoying the hell out of all the neighbors around here.”

On the same day, a staff member of Omar was observed bringing two large bags of Burger King into their residence, with security personnel stationed outside afterward.

There have been rumors that Omar might have fled following the raid by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), part of a broader criminal fraud inquiry tied to her immigration documents. Reports indicate that her cellphone and passport were confiscated during the search.

According to investigators, Omar had her birth year changed from 1981 to 1982 at the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library—an adjustment that raises questions about her immigration status, as it affects her citizenship eligibility. If born in 1981, she would have been 18 when her father naturalized, which complicates her citizenship claims if she wasn’t a minor at the time.

The incorrect birthdate had been used throughout her tenure in the Minnesota House and into her congressional service. When asked about the federal investigation, Mynett claimed he had “no concerns” about what the authorities would find regarding Omar’s immigration history, highlighting that she came to the U.S. as a refugee at a young age.

Further complicating matters, some of Omar’s relatives have received subpoenas linked to the ongoing investigation. Reports suggest that her sister, Sahra Noor, is among those subpoenaed.

Amid all this, President Trump has publicly questioned Omar’s financial disclosures, specifically the mismatch in reported net worth that fluctuated dramatically, even insinuating that fraudulent activity could be at play. Trump’s comments included questions about the origins of Omar’s wealth and her husband’s supposed lack of income.

In connection with this ongoing scrutiny, the U.S. Attorney stated that they are investigating Omar’s financial disclosures regarding shared assets with Mynett, including a notable discrepancy that arose in their joint financial filings.

Concerns around Omar’s finances intensified due to her 2024 congressional disclosure that listed Mynett’s business interests, which ranged between $6 million and $30 million. Following questions raised about those figures, her office amended the disclosures to indicate that Mynett’s ownership stakes were actually worth nothing, having previously been reported inaccurately.

This situation is evolving, and officials have clarified that the investigation into Omar’s financial matters is distinctly separate from the recent raid on her home.
